This time of the year can be a lot of fun. I absolutely love giving people gifts. I find a lot of joy in trying to find the perfect gift for friends and family. But at the same time it can be so difficult. So I have decided to write up a quick little gift guide for the perfect gift idea’s for any foodies or up and coming chefs in your life. So here we go, these are a few of my favorites
This is a monthly subscription that is a really awesome service. You sign up for their service and they send you out a pack of 3 spices along with recipes on how to use them. All of the spices they use are sourced for quality and ground, mixed and toasted by chefs. It is a great way to try lots of new and exciting flavors. On top of that you don’t have to worry if you’re giving this to someone on a specific diet. They have packages for gluten free, paleo and all sorts of others. You can subscribe in a 1 month, 6 month or 12 month plans. You can sign up for yourself or you can set this up as a gift through them to someone else!
ThermoWorks is a fantastic company. They offer some of the best thermometers I have ever used. My go to is the Thermapen. It is a super fast probe thermometer for getting quick temperature on a steak or chicken. They also carry a great selection of thermometers that you put the probe in and leave it in. These are great for anyone that is a big fan of smoking or long cooking methods. The newest model they have is called Smoke and has a unit that connects with Bluetooth so you can monitor the temperature without having to check the unit at the BBQ.
Sur La Table Classes
If you have someone in your life that is looking to learn to become a better cook, I have just the thing. Find your closest Sur La Table and sign up for a cooking class. It is a great way to learn different kinds of cuisines and methods of cooking. The classes are usually about 2 hours long and are all hands on. The only thing that is done for you is the portioning of the ingredients. The classes are taught by chef’s and they walk you through the recipes. The best part is the fact you get to eat everything you cook! And you get a copy of the recipes and a coupon for 10% off of any purchase in the store!
You can find classes here.
You know that you can never go wrong with a good cookbook for the foodie in your life. There are so many to choose from. It really comes down to what kind of food they like. A couple of them that I might recommend would be Carnivore by Michael Symon, any of the books by Jamie Oliver and Thomas Keller. If you have someone that is looking for something a little more advanced I would suggest Modernist Cuisine at Home. And one of my new favorites is The Food Lab by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt.
This would be a gift for someone that is probably a little more advanced in cooking. Anova makes a great immersion circulator for cooking sous vide. And if you’re following my blog you know how big of a fan I am of sous vide. They make two different models. One of them has the ability to be controlled by Bluetooth and the other by WiFi. As far as the units I have used these are great. They heat up very quickly and hold your water at a very consistent temperature. The app they have for your phone that lets you control them is awesome too. They have lots of different recipes in them for ideas as well. You can order them from Anova or you can check out Target. I have only used the Bluetooth model and love it. I have yet to try the WiFi one but I hope to try it and write a review on it soon.
This is a really fun kit for anybody in your life that wants to dabble or learn a little bit more in the world of molecular gastronomy. It comes with an assortment of chemicals and tools to learn with. Along with a great DVD filled with step by step instructions on how to make a bunch of different crazy and fun recipes. The easiest place to find one of these kits is on Amazon Molecule-R Cuisine R-Evolution
There are plenty of more ideas out there for cooks and foodies alike but these are a few of my favorites. Please feel free to leave other ideas in the comments section. I would love to know what other ideas you all have.
